We got out our 72-hour kits on Thursday when it was announced that Gustav was projected to hit Louisiana. We had a few things that needed to be replaced so we went to Wal-Mart and it was a mad house with jugs of water in short supply. Fortunately, we were able to get the things we needed without too much trouble. People at church today were talking about trying to go to the grocery store last night (just 2 days after our shopping trip) and being told by the Fire Marshall that no more people were allowed in the building.
It looks Gustav should be a tropical storm by the time it hits us in northern Louisiana on Tuesday/Wednesday so we’ll only get 75 mph winds instead of 150mph…phew! We’re bracing ourselves for a lot of rain, flooding and potential power outages, but should be just fine. Thank you to those who have called, emailed, posted blog comments or just sent thoughts our way to see if we’re OK. We will be sure to keep you updated.
Does this mean we have to cross “Gustav” off our list of potential names for our first-born son?
By the way, when updating our 72-hour kits I came across the most delectable, high-calorie snack: those construction-zone orange crackers held together by highly processed cheddar cheese filling. David noticed the empty wrappers (yes, that is ‘wrappers’ with a plural ‘s’) on the coffee table and said, “What happened to the crackers?” I sheepishly replied, “The baby thought they looked good.”
Does this picture make your mouth water, or is it just me?
PS-Yes, I did publish 3 posts in 24 hours. Can you tell that David is pretty busy at the hospital?:)

Jenny you and Dave are in our thoughts and prayers.
I love the photos of the crackers. I just crave chocolate chips during pregnancy - I carry small dixie cups with them around the house. You know the kind at grandmas that you use after brushing your teeth.
I think it's just you (and baby Gustav). If those were Milk Duds, then we'd be talkin'.
We'll be sending thoughts and prayers your way!
Your posts crack me up! My personal favorite is the imagery of the icee lady asking you if you've been...running? As for the 72 hours kits, hook a sister up with the lists of things you have in yours!
your posts make me laugh! glad to hear you are all okay. stay safe!
Stay safe! Hopefully you won't be too displaced. I went through a phase where I craved Arby's curly fries. Yum. Whatever the baby wants, give it to him! That's one of the few perks of pregnancy.
Glad you are okay! Batton down those hatches. Or whatever that saying is :)
So silly of me to have text messaged before checking the blog! (There should be some sort of "order of operations" for technology.) Glad you're okay. We don't even have 72 hours kits (gasp) so hopefully the storm won't make it to Dallas. Fortunately, if it does, we can just head down to the Convention Center, which is currently sleeping 2000 evacuees. I'm sure there is room for 2 1/2 more.
I was glad to see yesterday Gustav only came on shore as a category 2, otherwise I was going to write you guys off.
Hang in there!
Dang girl, you scared me. I thought those crackers were graves at first glance. I thought Gustav had done more than I thought. You are hillarious!
Hope you are guys are ok now that Gustav is passing. When the earthquakes were shaking Reno, I went to Wal-Mart every day for a week to seek out emergency items, and they were always out of stalk. We still need more items, but hopefully we will be doing that for our Super Saturday activity next month.
I love your blog, so I am glad that you posted 3 times in a row. :)
AHHH! You are in our thoughts and prayers. Way to be prepared girl. I can't wait to see you soon!! And your cute belly too... So Gustav eh?
Glad you are safe-- hope it stays that way! Love the posts.. glad they are more frequent. I have to visit your blog more than usual :) to stay abreast on the Ludlow life.
The crackers thing is just you and the babe -- I am sure you guys are fine -- I just hope the power isn't out too long or you might ROAST to death. That is seriously what I rememeber most about getting hurricanes as a child -- it was always so darn hot because there was no power. That, and we always ate steak cooked on the coleman stove so they wouldn't go to waste. Yummy! But then there was still the incredible heat . . .
