Definitely, maybe...

The much anticipated Louisiana doctor's appointment was today where we were supposed to find out if we're having a boy or girl. I say "supposed to" because technically the baby is now big enough to tell. However, baby wasn't terribly cooperative. After FOUR hours at the lovely LSU Women's and Children's Clinic (an entire blog post in and of itself) the baby's feet were crossed at the ankles and both legs were nice and tight together. At least if it is a girl we know she doesn't have a predisposition to being a hoochie mama:)

I tried sitting up, rolling to my side, and poking at my belly all in an effort to get the baby to open up, so to speak. But my efforts were to no avail. The doctor got a really nice shot of her booty, though and said, "Well, if it was a boy, we'd be seeing some sacks right there. So if I had to guess, I'd say it's a girl." That's as much clarity as we got.

So why the random pictures? Two reasons: 1-I think blog posts with pictures are more interesting; 2-the doctor said she was looking to see if we've got a "hamburger baby" or "hot dog baby." Use your imagination.

I have another ultrasound scheduled for August 1st and hopefully we'll have a bit more clarity then as to the fast food item with which our baby will most closely identify. I think I'll do some jumping jacks before my appointment so the baby will be spreadeagle in order to brace him/herself. What do you think?

Ha well I guess you get your wish after all. Maybe this will be a surprise baby! I am hoping for a girl though, because they are just so much fun! Other than the no gender part did everything look good?

Yeah, sorry for not mentioning the fact that everything else seemed to be great with the baby. He/she's actually starting to look pretty cute (not so much like an alien) and I'm getting really excited!

Jenny and David,

Fun blog - the hotdog and hamburger metaphor was a new one and you had quite the blunt nurse, didn't you. Either way, that baby is going to be one lucky kid.

Thanks for finding our blog and leaving a comment. We didn't know when you were leaving, but we are on our own adventure - moving back to Meridian. We leave in a week. ;-)

My SIL swears that a little caffeine before the ultrasound will have the baby moving all over. I don't know whether there is any truth to that...

I love ultrasounds. They never get old. I'm glad you'll have another one fairly soon!

You are so cute! I love your writing. I can't believe they couldn't give you a better answer than that! Although after having three girls myself and getting the same kind of ultrasounds, you will probably have a girl. I will be anxious to hear more! Thanks for all the helpful hints about Mexico-I am actually blogging from Mexico right now. Fun huh? We have had a great time-it will be hard to go home! :)

jenny, i am sorry that you didn't get to find out for sure what you are having but hopefully next time. When I was pregnant w/ Ethan they had me drink or eat ice cold things to get him to move. That boy never moved - but if I drank some ice water and layed down for a few minutes he would wake up a move enough to know that he was still alive.

Forget the jumping jacks -- drink a Coke -- full sugared and everything. She/He will be all over the place! It worked for me, and I do remember the Hamburger/hotdog thing.

Hey Jenny...Lindsay Iverson. I love reading your blog. It is very entertaining. Anyway, I have a few questions about the house you sold. We are going to put ours on the market, and need some advice from someone who got it done fast and well! Could I bother you for an email address so I can email you some questions??? Thanks...and good luck there in your new home!

I am so thrilled for your new girl or boy to arrive. I love your post, you are so creative. I do agree, posts with pictures are far more interesting. We will look forward to an August post to see if in fact it is a girl.
